Pretty much everyone coming to Costa Rica will be spending at least one night in the capital city. San Jose is sprawling network of fast moving roads and toll booths but it is also full of small and interesting areas. You just need to know where to find them.
Whether you are flying in of an afternoon, and setting off again tomorrow, or in search of the cool spots in San Jose, here are my suggestions for differing budgets.
Need to be close to SJO airport? I suggest the Hampton Inn and Suites at around $130 a night, it is a stones throw away from the airport, has a free shuttle bus and swimming pool for the little ones. Here is their link.
If you need something close to the airport but a little less expensive, then try

There are some gorgeous high end hotels that give a flavour of the history in San Jose. My favourites are:

My final suggestion is the Finca Rosa Blanca – this hotel is situated outside the centre of San Jose, nestled in the hills outside it and on a coffee farm. The view, rooms and restaurant are pretty cool and it is also part of a chain of award winning sustainable hotels in Costa Rica.
